For my child psychology class we need to do a project on autism. We need five sources .. two books and three scholarly journals. Both books are my book troubled child has a chapter on autism and I had another DSM-IV. Can anyone suggest some good journals that I can use?

My child has "classic autism", is very low functioning and received ABA treatment over a year … it has a looooong way to go! But I know many young people in the program that are so much higher and you need to be with them for a while before you see the "autistic traits" pop up (I guess that's a good sign that the therapy works). For me, it looks like only 1 in 10 children at the center have autism, but I'm comparing them to my child who is non-verbal behavior, but did nothing! I talked to many parents who are overwhelmed and stressed by the level of their child's disability when I would give anything for my child to have the capabilities of their child twice, but whatever you use to. I decided that this is my place to the call or not a child is "really autistic" and to (try to) leave this place to the art of Dr. 'Yes I think some rolling the thin line (and possibly misdiagnosed), but I have a brother who is definitely on the spectrum, was not diagnosed until much later in life and his childhood / adolescence was a nightmare! My child has been identified "officially" at 23 months (I fought with of r "for 9-10 months that it had many …" red flags ") and I believe that the diagnosis was correct (book text actually). As I said, she was in a ABA program for 1 year (we were on a waiting list for 2 1 / 2 years) doing 23-25 hours per week more pre-school for a total of 36 hours per week. We have seen wonderful improvements, she toilet trained behaviors have significantly decreased and she is learning things we never though possible … its future is still uncertain, but I can not (at this point) to believe will one day be identified. At this stage, the idea of one day having a conversation with her seems impossible … but we are hopeful and have been shocked by his progress this far:)

I mean Every time I turn around a new guy has suppossedly a degree of autism but they can do everything a normal child can do, except they specialize in just a tantrum if they do not get their way. I heard a doctor say to observe that most NPR Children diagnosed with autism, but are a bunch of kids who have no respect for anything. Anyone agree?

Listen NPR and would really surpirse if that's what they said. I have an autistic child, but I have been diagnosed over 8 years and I can tell you that the children I see are just spoiled in any way. They have made a difference in development that impacts their functioning in all areas, including use language, socialization and behavior.
