Autism important facts you should know

Say, for example, that I am a practicing primary care to see a boy of three years for the first time. It has obviously been seen elsewhere for colds and minor ailments, but I do not have access to his child in good health check-ups, if he got them all. I notice that the child is separated from his mother, and not make eye contact with one of us. It is absolutely silent and seems obsessed with the button on the examination table. He is unconscious of his elder brother who is also in the room. It was not verbal interaction with his mother or his brother. His mother says he was told a few words, but he spoke slowly less and less until, he says no words now. As he studied button examining table, he regularly beat motions with his hands and sometimes jerky movements of the head. My assessment is that he has delays in social interaction, social use of language, and a lack of imagination or symbolic play. I very concerned about the diagnosis of autism, and deciding to return to a trade group with expertise in this developmental disorder.

Autism is the subject of much interest in the media today. One reason is that the impact of diagnosis is increasing on an annual basis over the last ten years. It is not clear if the diagnosis is more or if there is a particular situation or other problem of driving the increase. We do not know the figures of 11-17 per 1000 children, and four times more boys than girls there. There is a statistic increase in the number of autistic children born to fathers over 40 years. We know there is an increase in seizures and gastrointestinal problems in autism. Researchers have found an anomaly on the X chromosome that appears to correlate with autism. Other contemporary researchers have described results including the placenta seems to be a marker for autism at birth. Several years ago, a British doctor is doing some very small in which he claimed to demonstrate that the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine caused autism. This theory has been totally discredited, and the physician is now faced with censorship by the medical society. Similarly, the theory that thimerosal, a mercury-minute ingredient antibacterial in vaccines (not used since 2002) was a kind event, was denied. It is investigating whether many scientists environmental agents such as pesticides or pollution of the air are involved, but the evidence leads to a significant genetic condition. A scientist put it this way: "Autism begins when the sperm hits the egg!" It does not seem too implausible: the impact of autism in families who also have another child with autism is 25 times higher than the general population.

Autism is a disorder called "ghost", and what he means is that its manifestations may be relatively mild to very severe. A scientist put it this way: "Once you've met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism." One of the milder forms spectrum of autism is Asperger syndrome. All the mentioned criteria for the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders are met, but the person may have relatively high levels of functioning, even the so-called "scholar" of cases. Dustin Hoffman played an individual with Asperger syndrome in 'Rain Man, "and included a wonderful show detail. He had a gift for the count and made a fortune in blackjack tables in Las Vegas, but was unable to talk or social interaction other than repeating rituals, speaking in a voice robotics, and sentences is a copy of what was said to him or to repeat TV dialogue memorized. He even joked repeatedly at inappropriate times, especially when he was nervous or threatened, and had motor mannerisms with his hands.

This brings us to another characteristic of autism spectrum disorders, that is, they are not "curable". They persist throughout life, and need not affect longevity, unless the problems lead to trial unfortunate accident. Symptoms may be somewhat muted in adult life, except for negative symptoms, like not talking, can persist, and some percentage by a large number of negative symptoms may eventually require institutionalization. The only thing that seems to help the more intense behavioral training and language at least through the age of three. There are many psychological and educational techniques are applied to custom particular presentation of autism spectrum disorders. The other technique is the maximum involvement of parents as people to fix, trust and communication for autistic children. Parents are also encouraged to join support groups for parents of children with autism. There are many organizations and websites that provide the latest research and parents coping with the problems of autism. There are other treatments out there for autism. The first is the injection of stem cells that is supposed to change some of the neurological status. There are proponents of dietary therapy as the elimination of gluten (wheat, oats, etc.) and casein (dairy products). Some doctors recommend chelation therapy for eliminate toxins known as the bloodstream and tissues. None of these have scientific evidence to justify a medical recommendation.

People with autism may have other problems. It is sadly reminded John Travolta autistic child who died of convulsions. There may have psychiatric problems such as depression and psychosis that need to be treated. Then there are the things that ordinary people, such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes and heart disease, which must be treated as they would in the general population.

We all need to know as much as we can about autism, as there are chances that we will encounter an autistic child at one time or another. It may be our own child, niece or nephew, a child next door or at school in a special classroom needs. We need to know that the condition is a neurological disorder, not the result of bad parenting or inadequate. In this way, we can react to the understanding and compassion that is necessary and justified.
