As a parent of a child Asperger Syndrome, I want other parents know that autism spectrum disorders range from extreme to barely perceptible. When people learn that my daughter is concerned, they are shocked. It saddens me to know exactly how many people expect a person with autism to look like Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man. Please remember that most children with autism hear everything you say, if they seem to be giving attention or not. Careless comments can be extremely painful, especially to a child who struggles to speak to let him out. And when you see a parent in a stalemate at the grocery store with their child, do not automatically think "That child is a BRAT!" It could have more things, so you know, your eyes and trial are not helping the child or parent. And please please please, in particular, does not affect a situation you do not understand. Sometimes, when my daughter, I have to behave in a manner that seems against nature, or indifferent, with another child. But what works for her. Do not judge, have an open mind and an open heart.
