Any advice for a new teacher for children with autism?

I recently obtained a university degree and have take a job working in a local private school serving children with autism. I will work one-on-one with 3-4 children per day, teaching them a set of basic communication equipment / successful identification / social interaction more depth, specific areas. Does anyone have helpful advice on working in the field? I start Monday and will all be very new to me. Thank you! Just a little background: I'll go through a extensive training and will be shadowing a mentor from the first week of employment. The children range from toddlers all the way up to 18 years (school assistance to enter the professional fields)

My child is autistic and has had many / one staff to work with him over the years. He appeared to its best when the aid was calm, steadfast, patient and consistent.Consistency in the routine was very important, especially when starting a new aid. I suggest you read the book Grandena Temple Pictures. She think is autistic and his book explains much about how it feels to be autistic and how it deals with the world of sense, they ACCUTE have.Flouresent bright people look like cartoon characters from her, if she could not concentrate, so Be aware of the environment when working with children. It explains how the man wanted to touch the sandpaper. For my child, gets nervous when people are too close to him, so be aware of their space .. Some sounds can damage their ears.It is not always the loud noises, or, more pitch. So learn to listen to Envirnment things around you that you can not hear without paying attention.Smells can be overwhelming, so take too off on cologne or perfume. Most are visual learners. You could tell my son something a dozen times and it would not keep, but to show one or twice, and earned it.When he was quite young, we were taught their address, including zip code.He not remember the zip code until we done with the numbers clay. After that if he was asked his address, he can repeat exactly, but if you asked him where he lived, he said, a house.Thats their way of thinking! Another thing I suggest is, be careful, Childs behavior can be for reasons not obvious at first .. For example, one year, my math teacher told me son that she gave him a sheet of math problems and he threw himself on the ground very anger, which I thought was not able to calculate problems.Come To find out, she had changed its place of one he had served the last time in his class. In addition, if you ask a question, do not ask another until answers. If child it does not respond immediately, it may be asked what you prossessing, and could be upset at the interruption of its thought. Some staff were very hard to remember it because it often looks like he did not even hear you, to try to put the question it differently, and that upset him. WWW.autism.com is the website of the Autism Research Institute in San Diego, California. You find tons of information on autism, including studies on treatment and some parents effectively must learn about the different treatment and work with the doctor what can work for their child. To apply a certain treatment does not seem fair to me. Different things work for different children. We found vitamins, Nu-Thera with P5P laboratories Kirkman and DMG helped our child tremendously. Sorry for the course and on but a topic that touches my heart. I think you will find working with these children rewarding.
