What kind of doctor who specializes in autism?

I am doing medical research on autism in infants and 2/3years children up, and I wondered what kind of doctor would specialize in the diagnosis of childhood, and what kind of tests, they would normally run. At first I thought that neurologists, but I'm not really sure. It is also possible there could be a physical cause of autism as something to do with the brain or something like that? Thank you!
